Garage Door Installation & Replacement
Whether you're replacing a damaged door, upgrading an aging 1990s panel, or installing doors on new construction, Florida Garage Door Authority handles full garage door installation from Hernando County to Collier County. Every installation includes proper permitting, professional hardware fitting, and opener integration.
When to Repair vs. Replace
Repair Makes Sense When:
- The door frame is solid
- Damage is limited to springs, cables, or rollers
- A single panel is dented while the rest is intact
- The door is less than 15 years old and in good overall condition
Replace When:
- The door is more than 20 years old
- Damaged in a hurricane or vehicle impact
- Doesn't meet Florida Building Code wind requirements
- Multiple panels are damaged
- The structural frame (end stiles, bottom section) is compromised
Gulf Coast homes built before 2002 often don't meet current Florida Product Approval wind load requirements. Replacement automatically brings the door into code compliance.
Garage Door Materials for Florida
Not all materials perform equally in Florida's climate. Here's what we recommend for each situation.
Steel
The most popular choice in Florida. Modern steel doors use polyurethane insulation between layers of galvanized steel. They resist denting, hold paint well, and are available in hurricane-rated configurations for all Gulf Coast wind zones. Best overall value for most Gulf Coast homes.
Aluminum
Lightweight and naturally rust-resistant — a significant advantage for waterfront homes in Cape Coral, Punta Gorda Isles, Sarasota Bay-front properties, and coastal Collier County. Available in full-view glass configurations popular in contemporary architecture. More susceptible to denting than steel.
Fiberglass / Composite
Excellent salt-air resistance. Fiberglass skins don't rust and can be molded to mimic wood grain convincingly. The best choice for direct oceanfront or bayfront properties where salt exposure is extreme. Higher cost than steel.
Wood Composite
Provides the appearance of real wood without the warping and rotting that solid wood suffers in Florida humidity. Requires periodic painting. Not recommended within one mile of the Gulf due to moisture exposure.
Solid Wood
Not recommended for the Gulf Coast. Florida's humidity warps and degrades solid wood panels rapidly, especially in coastal environments. Wood composite delivers the same aesthetic with far better durability.

Replacement makes sense when: the door is more than 20 years old, it's been damaged in a hurricane or vehicle impact, it doesn't meet current Florida Building Code wind requirements, multiple panels are damaged, or the structural frame (bottom section, end stiles) is compromised. For Gulf Coast homes built before 2002, there's a good chance the existing door does not meet current Florida Product Approval wind load requirements.
